What type of fence is best?

The list of types of fence, their styles and practical uses are long and their application can be a choice between aesthetic preference or robust durability.

I have listed a few examples below and will be happy to discuss a range of options as well as advise you on what would work best for your specific garden fence needs.

CloseBoard Fence in Bristol

Closeboard fencing is one of the most popular fencing types. This type of fence is built using vertical featheredge boards that partially overlap each other. It offers durability, privacy and stability and is custom made on site to fit.

You can choose between the size & strength of rails -

Industry standard rails - 88mm x 38mm

Heavy duty rails - 100mm x 50mm

Hit & Miss fencing in Bristol

Hit and Miss fencing is where the boards are alternately fixed on the front and the back to create an attractive pattern that offers privacy and aesthetic appeal on both sides of the fence, so your neighbours get a great looking fence as well. This design also helps reduce the wind load on the fence and is therefore less prone to storm damage.

The image shows a heavy duty vertical style of hit and miss fence. Other options with horizontal styles, forms and gauge are available. If you have seen something you like then send me a link or a picture and I can source, supply and install for you.

Overlap panel fencing Bristol

Overlap or lap panel fence is popular due to its affordability and good durability. All of our timber is pressure treated and wherever possible our overlap panels come with three vertical support battens for additional support.

You can use timber posts as shown and add trellis over for a really pleasing aesthetic look. Even with pressure treated posts and panels we advise and recommend that all timber is treated annually with suitable weather protection and for your timber posts you can opt for the Postsaver sleeve protector option.

Heavy Duty fencing

For ultimate durability and practicality slotted concrete posts and concrete gravel boards are a big hit. The concrete should last a lifetime and should a timber panel perish or get damaged a new panel can easily be slotted back in its place! Another bonus is you get the same finish both sides of the fence.

Composite Fencing

A great alternative to wooden fencing is composite fencing. Lightweight, but durable and tough, does not warp or rot. Can be retrofitted to existing slotted concrete posts, replacing the old fence panels or built from new. Available in multiple styles and colours to give you that desired designer effect.

Wind proof Fencing

The customer was in the process of landscaping their garden when the old garden fence was damaged. We were advised that the winds can be brutal at times so they wanted complete peace of mind. We discussed and advised on a horizontal hit & miss fence panel with concrete posts to ensure this fence will keep upright and true in the stormiest of storms! Hit and Miss panels greatly reduce the wind loads across the length of the fence.

Twin wire mesh fencing Bristol

868 Twin wire mesh fencing is normally the reserve of commercial, security and school fencing solutions. However, there are many benefits to this type of fencing for domestic fencing other than the low maintenance and pure brute strength of the product.

The name, 8-6-8 refers to the two 8mm steel horizontal wires that run the length of each panel to secure the 6mm vertical steel wire. The mesh can be left as is or as per our example below we have woven a high tensile, durable PVC strip through the panels for privacy.

50mm box section steel posts anchor the panels in place and require very little space. If you are tight for space and need to run up to and along a boundary this is a great solution to make the most of every last inch of space.
